A restart is different from a factory reset. Restarting a single device can clear a temporary software or connection problem without erasing its setup.
Try this
- Identify the one device that appears to be failing.
- If the device has a normal Restart option in its menu, use that first.
- If no restart option is available and the device can safely be power-cycled, disconnect power, wait 10–30 seconds, reconnect it, and allow it to finish starting.
- Test the same source or function again before restarting anything else.
Try this first / Why
Examples of devices that are commonly safe to restart include Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, many televisions, and many AV receivers. Use the product-specific article in this Knowledge Base whenever possible.
Do not do this
CAUTION: Do not use a recessed Reset button or a long button-hold sequence unless the instructions specifically say ‘restart’ for that model. On many smart-home and network products, a longer reset can erase configuration.
