The Rise of She Sheds And How Technology Can Help

Alright ladies, you’re up! If you enjoyed our last post, 5 Different Looks at Designing a Technologically Advanced ‘Man Cave’, you’ll appreciate the softer side of man caves.

That’s right, today we’re talking lady caves, better know as “She Sheds.” Everyone needs their own space sometimes, and this rising trend caught our eye. Let’s take a look at some of the ways that women are designing their own spaces and how technology and automation can enhance the experience.

DIY Yoga Studio

Ohhhhhhhmmmmmmm…

Yoga is great for the mind, body, and soul. But at $10-20 per drop in or upwards of $100 per month, it can get kind of expensive. Why not put together your own yoga studio in an extra space in your home or garage?

And to really trick it out, add some home automation in the form of lighting, music, security or cameras. Imagine walking up to your own yoga studio with your mobile phone in your pocket—the door unlocks, the lights turn on to the perfect soft light setting, and relaxing music starts playing. Oh, and to top it off, automatically adjust the temperature of the room to the Bikram-level of 105º. The increased heat provides a ridiculously good stretch. Additionally, consider installing an infrared sauna for added benefits.

The situation described above is more technologically advanced than many actual yoga studios and easily accomplished with technology from Control4 and the proper installation.

Glorious Greenhouses

Do you dig gardening? Planning on propagating some succulents? A she shed designed for vegetation is a great option for those so inclined. You’ll need to consider things like ventilation, humidity, temperature control, and lighting, just to name a few.
And of course, technology and automation can help! You can use shades that draw and open based on the position of the sun, or program lights to provide the exact amount of Vitamin D to your collection of plants. The best way to do this with Control4 is to set specific “Scenes” according to the specific needs of your plants.

The Ultimate Reading Nook

While there are plenty of ways to add utility to your space, sometimes you just need a place where you can get away from it all. With home automation options, you can control everything in your house remotely from your reading nook. You can even set “Do not disturb” preferences to give you a few minutes peace, while checking in on the comings and goings of your main property with video surveillance or intercoms.

What if an unexpected guest drops by to your front door, hundreds of feet away from your reading nook? Get alerted through your home automation system and remotely unlock the door for them, or direct them to your location via the speakers inside.
